In this course the participants are trained in how to actively participate in an international meeting. The first part of the seminar is devoted to train the participants on how to increase their Diplomatic English language skills. A language coach will lecture on how to prepare, conduct and participate in an international meeting, as well as providing tips with regards to argumentation and negotiation techniques. The second part of the seminar is dedicated to a simulation of a working party meeting in the Council of Ministers. Each participant is given a country to represent, and has to defend its country’s interests and try to reach a compromise agreement. The language coach will also here be present, and individual feedback on the English language and negotiating techniques is given during the simulation. The structure of ‘Negotiating in the EU’ is based on the precondition that participants are familiar with the decision making processes in the EU system. Hence, The Brussels Office recommend that the participants attend seminar 1) – ‘Lobbying the EU’ – before attending this course. Duration: 2 days
